Corten plate is a weather resistant steel created by alloying
copper, chromium and nickel. In addition to this, Corten A has
added phosphorous which makes the material best suited for gas flue
applications and for aesthetic facias The material is not
recommended in heavy load bearing applications - in this case
Corten B or S355J2W should be considered.
The top layer of the material reacts with atmospheric elements to
form a rust coloured protective layer which not only makes the
steel virtually maintenance free but also provides a pleasing and
consistent finish.
Corten steel plate (called weather resistant steel plate ) was used
in different weather. It has good anti rust
protection and welding ability and is usedin shipping
container,support frame of outside building etc.
Remarkably enhances the anticorrosive performance of the structural

Weathering steel, best-known under the trademark COR-TEN steel and
sometimes written without the hyphen as corten steel, is a group of
steel alloys which were developed to eliminate the need for
painting, and form a stable rust-like appearance if exposed to the
weather for several years. The name is short for "corrosion
resistance" and "tensile strength".
Weathering refers to the chemical composition of these steels,
allowing them to exhibit increased resistance to atmospheric
corrosion compared to other steels. This is because the steel forms
a protective layer on its surface under the influence of the
weather.
The corrosion-retarding effect of the protective layer is produced
by the particular distribution and concentration of alloying
elements in it. The layer protecting the surface develops and
regenerates continuously when subjected to the influence of the
weather. In other words, the steel is allowed to rust in order to
form the protective coating.

The mechanical properties of weathering steels depend on which
alloy and how thick the material is.
Corten steel plate
1. Weather resistant structural steel. The anticorrosive properties
of weather resistant steel are better than those of other
structural steels in many applications. The steel is
self-protecting: The rust layer on the surface becomes a tight
oxide layer that slows down the progress of corrosion. The steel is
an economical, long-lasting and fully recyclable material.
2. Corrosion resistant steel - Weathering Steel
Weathering steel is a copper chromium alloy which is
'self-healing'. The untreated steel reacts to chemicals in the
atmosphere as part of the oxidation process and generates its own
protective layer of rust. This layer (or patina) prevents the steel
from further deterioration and replenishes itself over time.
3. Atmospheric corrosion resistant HSLA structural quality steel is
stronger & tougher than carbon steel, is ductile, highly formable &
weldable.
HSLA structural steel features atmospheric corrosion resistance,
which is crucial in structural applications.
Atmospheric corrosion resistant steel is intended primarily for use
in structural members, where savings in weight (mass) and added
durability matter.
Plate is used in truck frames, brackets, crane booms, rail cars and
other comparable applications.
